I got my boyfriend a survival bracelet as part as his anniversary gift?

it's a little big. how can he make it a little smaller? i have one and it came with instructions on how to make it smaller by getting it wet with hot water but his didn't come with anything. can we use the same method to shrink his as i can with mine?
