How to start a laptop? Brand new ?

I just got a laptop and I haven't turned it on. It's still in the box it came in. I'm so anxious to start using it but I don't know what I need to do. What I do know is that one of the instructions is to charge it before using it for the 1st time. Any help on what else I need to do ?
