Why won't Minecraft rapid pulse timers work for me?

I was trying to build a full-auto dispenser on my friend's multiplayer server and I followed EVERY instruction to make a rapid pulse timer and it blinks for about 5 times and stops blinking. I tried EVERY and I mean every redstone circuit to make a dispenser full auto from youtube and it doesn't work! Is this a bug or am I missing something?
